Book the pod if your Cambridge hall is tight and you want the queue kept off the dance floor, and read the rest of this only if you want to know why. That’s the recommendation and it holds for most of the small rooms we work in around here. The two booths publish an identical list of what you get, an identical arrival window and one difference in the figure, so the money is the least interesting thing about the choice. What actually separates them is how much of your floor each one occupies once guests are standing in front of it. One of them holds its queue in a line. The other lets it spread.
What the Cambridge Photo Booth Pod Puts in the Room
Start with the list, because it’s the same list twice and that surprises people.
The photo booth pod publishes unlimited prints during the event, digital photos afterwards, an on-site attendant, your choice of backdrop, live view and touchscreen operation and props. It’s published at $549 for two hours with a rate for each additional hour, and we arrive up to three hours before your start.
The open air booth publishes the same six, the same three-hour arrival, and $399 for two hours. Premier Booth’s photo booth pod page sets the format out from another operator, in case a different description lands better.

So what does the difference buy? A pod is a self-contained stand that guests step up to, and an open air booth is a camera on a stand pointed at a backdrop. In a big room that distinction is decoration. In a Cambridge hall of eighty or a hundred, it’s the whole decision, because the pod holds the group in one place and the open air setup lets them spread out in front of the backdrop.
Where a Cambridge Open Air Booth Wins Instead
The honest difference is this: the pod is tidier and the open air booth is more sociable, and only one of those is what your room needs.
Take the open air booth in a Cambridge room where the backdrop is doing decorative work. It stands wider, guests pile in six and eight at a time, and the backdrop becomes part of the room instead of part of a machine. That’s the right call for a Cambridge wedding where the wall behind the booth is going to be in half the photographs anyway.

Take the pod when floor space is the constraint, which describes most Cambridge halls. It occupies a footprint and holds its queue in a line instead of a crowd, and that matters in a room where the only free wall is also the route to the bar.

One thing does differ on paper besides the base figure, and it’s small. Both booths publish the same charge for a custom backdrop colour, but the pod publishes two custom print template options against the open air booth’s one, priced by the print size. If you want your names and the date on every strip, ask which sizes each booth offers before you pick, because that’s the only published extra where the two lists come apart.
Waterloo bookings skew towards the open air booth, because the campus and function rooms out there are wider. Paris halls are usually the opposite, older and narrower, and the pod suits them better. Tell us the room and we’ll say which side of the line you’re on.
Cambridge Booth Questions: Pod or Open Air
What a small room forces you to ask.
Is a photo booth pod rental in Cambridge worth more than an open air booth?
It depends entirely on your room, because the two publish the same inclusions and the same arrival window. If your hall is tight, or the free wall is on a walking route, the pod’s contained footprint is worth the difference. If you have a wide room and a backdrop you want seen, the open air booth is the better buy and we’d say so plainly. Send us the floor plan and we’ll tell you which one your room is.
How much floor space does a booth need in a Cambridge hall?
Less than the square footage suggests, because the shape matters more. What both booths want is a clear wall or corner plus standing room in front, and what neither wants is a position on a walking route between the bar and the tables. The pod is the more forgiving of the two on this, since its queue forms in a line. Send us a photo of the corner and we’ll confirm it works.
Do both booths come with a backdrop in Cambridge?
Yes, and the published range is the same for both: six sequin colours, two velvets and three vinyls, with gold and rose gold sequin as the standard pair and anything outside that published as a custom colour. The photo booth backdrops page has all of them. Velvet is usually the safer pick in a room with coloured uplighting, and your venue’s lighting plan decides it.
Which booth suits a small Paris or Waterloo room better?
Paris rooms tend to be older and narrower, so the pod is our usual suggestion there. Waterloo function and campus rooms are generally wider and better suited to the open air booth, where a group of eight can step in together. Neither is a rule, and the room decides in both cases. Send the venue name and we’ll give you a straight answer rather than a preference.
Can we change from one booth to the other after booking?
Usually, and the earlier the better. The two carry different figures, so a swap changes your quote in one direction or the other, and the attendant’s schedule is the same either way. What we’d rather avoid is finding out on the day that the room won’t take the booth you booked. Tell us the venue when you book and that conversation happens now instead of then.
Do the pod and the open air booth take the same photographs?
The equipment side is the same, since both publish unlimited prints during the event, digital photos afterwards and the same live view and touchscreen operation. What differs is what ends up in the frame. The pod holds a group tighter and closer to the camera, and the open air booth lets six or eight people spread out with more of your Cambridge room behind them. If the wall matters to you, that’s an argument for the open air one.

Send Us the Room’s Short Side
One measurement settles this.
The short side of the room, and where the free wall is in relation to the bar. That’s genuinely enough for us to say pod or open air, because the answer is about floor and traffic rather than about either booth’s feature list. The Cambridge photo booth rental page carries the other four formats if your room turns out to want something else entirely, and Marquee Lights’ open air photo booth page covers that format elsewhere if you want a second description of it.
